a solid 'Good, but not Great'.

Ideally, I'd give this place a 2.5/5.
Tuk Tuk Thai in Berkeley offers a quirky atmosphere, with a literal tuk tuk parked right inside the restaurant by the entrance. It's a conversation starter, for sure! However, the food itself didn't quite hit the mark for me.
Quirky & Fun Vibes: The tuk tuk is definitely the highlight of the decor. It injects a touch of whimsy and sets the tone for a casual dining experience.
Pad Thai Overload: I tried their signature Pad Thai with chicken. While the portion size was generous, the overall sweetness was a bit overwhelming. The "perfect blend" of sugar, tamarind, and lime juice leaned too heavily on the sweet side for my taste. It could have benefited from a bit more tang or savoriness.
Saving Grace - Thai Iced Tea: The Thai iced tea was a bright spot. It was refreshing and flavorful, a classic done well.
The Verdict: Tuk Tuk Thai offers a fun and casual atmosphere, but the sweetness of the Pad Thai might be a turn-off for some. The Thai iced tea was a saving grace, but overall, the experience landed at a 2.5 star review. If you're looking for a more balanced Thai flavor profile, you might want to explore other options.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 1 - 4145882028Dec 26, 2023
My friends and I stopped by here after an evening gym session on a weekday and it was pretty empty. The menu is extensive, so there's plenty of options to choose from. I saw they even had a tuk tuk seating booth, but it seems like you'd have to make a special reservation for that!
We got the chicken potstickers ($12), which were my favorite part of the meal. They were super crispy and flavorful on the inside. We also shared a pad kra prai (spicy basil) with beef ($13) and it was okay to me. The beef was pretty tough and the flavor could've been stronger.
The service was also nice, but not very attentive, and we needed to call someone over for water multiple times. Overall, the food is reasonably priced, but it wouldn't be my first choice for Thai food.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 3Oh no 1 - Cristina C.Oakland, CA0115Apr 29, 2024
Food is delicious and the price is very reasonable.
Highly recommend the Pad Thai and Spring Rolls. The Curry is great too!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Dec 23, 2023
Another solid Thai spot in Berkeley! Only checked this out since my 2 fav spots were already closed. Came in hungry coming from S.F. on a late Friday night. Servers were welcoming and diners eating so late, so that was good to see. Had the fried chicken over Thai rice, which I devoured in minutes. Definitely saving this place as another good eating option especially coming from bar.

The place is in the heart of Berkeley downtown and seems like it was a wonderful place...now it's like a standard diner. Wooden tables n chairs. Some cute art on the walls and tuk tuk... which is dirty. The place could use a deep cleaning and some organizing around the front.
The menu choices vary. There's definitely an abundance of meat, but seafood is scarce. Looks like the menus are beat up, so probably old & forever menu.
The staff are just okay... they are not there to help you have a good meal & it's not because they're short staffed! They let the cooks do all the heavy lifting. We sat down for 10 minutes with the menus and then when I went to wash hands they came to take our orders. Never got the bill, or to go boxes to the table, I had to go up and request. Bottom line, you may not get golden treatment here, unless the staff change!!!
The food is awesome!!! There's robust and fresh flavors! Delicious! I imagine take out lines and delivery is wonderful choice!
Street Parking. And some right in front!
Semi clean restrooms.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Nov 10, 2022
YUM! I'm a huge fan of Thai food. I mean, I'm mildly obsessed with it. Most places serve by dish but what I love about Tuk Tuk is there lunch special. It came with an entree (I got pad see ew with chicken) AND spring rolls and they were both *chef kiss* I will say the serving was small but that's to be expected for a lunch special as a slightly discounted price so I'm not mad it.
The staff was really friendly and my food came out quick. The restaurant itself was a bit dark inside (hence why my pics are so dark) but it's huge so it's big enough for larger parties. I did go as a party of 1 on a weekday afternoon so it was pretty quiet and it made the sounds of my smacking very noticeable.
The food was amazing. They have wine & beer. I imagine I'd had trouble parking on a busier day because of the location but if you can find a park & love Thai please stop in then tell me how much you love it :)Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 3Oh no 0 - Rayna L.Bedford Hills, NY411215Mar 13, 2024
I recently ordered pad thai and omg how can they call it a pad Thai. The noodles were thin and super sweet with maybe two or three pieces of chicken. They put a lot of tofu to fill the container. This is NOT pad thai. By far the worst Thai food I've had. Save your self $$ and do not order

Tuk Tuk Thai Cafe is my go-to for quick, simple Thai food. I usually order Tuk Tuk Thai through Snackpass when I'm feeling a little lazy to cook, and it always hits the spot. I always order their Pad See Ew, and you can choose from a variety of proteins. The dish is always consistent everytime I order and is what you expect from a Pad See Ew. The portions are very large and I always have leftovers. If you're looking for quick, tasty Thai food, stop by Tuk Tuk Thai Cafe!

I think my favorite part of dining here was the cute tuk-tuk/rikshaw right by the entrance! I didn't get a picture of the curry puffs because we were so hungry, but I have to say those were probably the best curry puffs I've had! The pad khi mao with tofu was delicious as well and I'm really glad we made the spontaneous decision to go here just because they're open later than most spots!
