The neighborhood at College Avenue and Ashby Street is known as The Elmwood. The Elmwood provides great destinations for visitors as well as neighbors, including fine restaurants, great shopping experiences, in addition to neighborhood oriented businesses.

The Elmwood District started its development in the early 1900's with the installation of a rail line along College, and the opening of the Strand Theater (now the Elmwood) in 1914. In past few decades, The Elmwood has undergone struggles to retain its neighborhood character. After political campaigns, wins, losses, and compromises, The Elmwood remains a welcoming neighborhood for both visitors and residents.
