I recently stop by Casa Latina to try Tamales Chapins', mmm! Delicious yummy yummy.
They come in a real Banna's leaf, and serve them with sour cream and salsa.
I usually eat two of them, they are good size and the price is good.

Desirous of a burrito I stopped in at Casa Latina. The place was so inviting looking that immediately after placing my order I decided we should eat there, not at home, and followed with this: "I ordered wrong".

Burritos are the sort of thing I order as a take-away, never a dine-in, and Casa Latina proved my natural instincts correct. Everything being brought out to others looked far more appealing than my Carne Asada Burrito which was bland and completely uninspired. The person who ate my leftovers later that evening concurred: "that burrito was missing, like, everything...". To wit, the carne asada wasn't flavorful, there was no pico de gallo, very light on the requested pinto beans, and the hot sauce had all settled into a single section which I'd not encountered while eating. To say I'd not get a carne asada burrito here ever again is to speak truth.

A Mariscos Burrito made with shrimp tasted much better.

Everything about Casa Latina makes me think there's something I'd like on the menu and for that reason I took note of a taco Tuesday offering they feature. That said though, there's a lot of Mexican fare in Berkeley that I already know I like so the odds of a return visit - no matter how the decor charmed me - are running slim to nil.

Taco Tuesday? Say less! Companion suggested we grab some tacos and I thought it was a great idea. We chose Casa Latina as it was our first time dining there together.

The restaurant's environment is brightly colored, with neighborhood vibes, and art sprawled throughout. It's the right-sized restaurant for small or larger parties as seating is all self-service. The workers are all courteous and ordering is done at the front with limited interactions.

There's a lot to take in in terms of the food. Traditional and nontraditional Mexican and Latin American foods, plus a bakery! I've had their pastries before but not their tacos in a while. I got the Carnitas Taco and my companion had the Al Pastor Taco; both were discounted for taco Tuesday. The carnitas taco was the juiciest taco I've ever had--literally, juice wouldn't stop spilling it. The carnitas was good but could've had more flavor while my companion's Al pastor was dry. Both tacos had some heat due to the salsa, I'd opt for it on the side next time.

Berkeley has a variety of options for Mexican food. Casa Latina is pretty good for prices and portions, but I wouldn't actively seek this restaurant out. Parking is street only and the restaurant is found off San Pablo Ave.

Wait. Don't tell me I've never reviewed this place...

I've been here quite a few times over the years and I really enjoy each visit. If you've never been here, here's what you should know:
      - it's on the smaller side! Lots of people have to-go orders so I've never had an issue with seating, but keep that in mind.
      - there's a little Mexican bakery section here!
      - nearby parking is metered street parking or residential, so it's likely you'll have to park and walk.
      - bathroom? Absolutely. Just one, and you'll need a key.

I think the cost is on the higher side, but not much more than similar restaurants in the area. The interior is nicely decorated, with a large mirror and some Frida artwork.
The food is solid. I love their chips! They're so well-seasoned. Some of the bakery items have not been my favorite, but they're okay.

My husband loves to order the chile verde burrito, which is gigantic. I will usually order pupusas (technically not Mexican food, these hail from El Salvador). The portion size is great. As a bonus, my toddler loves the food here, so they definitely earned my business.

Reasonably priced Latin food with the top notch flavors. I took my little sisters here for a bite after the Cal Berkeley Basketball game. You must order first before u sit down. I wish they would have wiped the table off first but no biggie.

      We all ordered Tacos:
2 Carne Asada Tacos (about street taco size but lots of meat
3 Carnitas Tacos (same size as asada tacos)
2 prawn tacos (it was pretty flavorful but a bit messy)
      2 sides of rice
      1 Cola
      1 horchata
      1 jarritos
      --------------
      All for $50

The food was delicious, love the energy again, just wish they would have wiped off the table! Cleanliness is key!

First time here I have had this place bookmarked for sometime now and I finally made it here

I called in and ordered a breakfast burrito with chorizo I added avocado I asked to also add nopales but they said they no longer have nopales on the menu

Placing my order on the phone was easy

I was able to find street parking rt in front !! Parking is metered, no private parking lot

I was kinda shocked that the burrito ended up costing $21
Cus that is ALOT for a basic breakfast burrito but here is their breakdown

      $12 for breakfast burrito
      $4 for chorizo
$2 for avocado THAT WAS NOT ADDED !!! Grrrrrrrrrr

I really wanted to like this spot but the burrito is BASIC and I can't ever imagine paying $20 for a burrito PERIOD

I'm a baller on a budget and I'll try this spot again but I guess only on Taco Tuesdays $2.50 a taco

Inside is nicely decorated and clean

Love coming here. Food is always good. This time we went for some tacos (carne asada always very good here) and shared mole poblano and barbacoa plates. I love their poblano but will skip barbacoa next time. Their flan is delicious and very rich. Will be back for breakfast or another burrito scene next time

Casa Latina was good. We found street parking and the tacos were sizable. What I love is the bakery portion of this place, they have a side filled with bakery items and pastries that were fairly large. Wouldn't return to go here specifically because the tacos were nothing incredibly memorable but would come back for the atmosphere and the bakery items.
